I have a small case of ocd and tourettes, i havent really opened up to my parents about this, and until i get a second opinion, i wont. I always have the urge to look to the right, for no reason, and i twitch a lot (eyes). And if i'm holding a remote w/ my right hand, i gotta touch it with my left hand too, otherwise, i feel uncomfortable and i go nuts. How do u deal w/ tourettes and ocd?
Best answer:
As a parent of a child with Tourettes, OCD and ADHD, I am sympathetic to you and I would think that your own parents will sympathize as well.
However, don't depend on others for validation for this or any other reason. You are a person and deserving of respect, just like everyone else.
If you still live at home, your parents have probably already noticed. Tourettes is difficult to hide. Tourettes and OCD is just a small part of who you are.
We just deal with it as it is. Take it for what it is. So what if my son tic's? So what if he makes unusual movements with his arms, or sometimes, legs? So what if it takes him longer to read a book? He gets the job done eventually. Anyone who does not accept you for you does not deserve to know you!
Tourettes is Neurological, or to be more specific, Neurobiological. It's NOT your fault. It's NOT a mental illness. Do your research. Ask your Neurologist. If you have not been seen by a Pediatric Neurologist or a Neurologist, ask you regular Doctor or family Physician for a referral.
Blessing to you for a good outcome.
