Toe Problem?

My big toe has been swollen ever since last October, and 2 doctors I visited don't know what is wrong. It hurts when I lay down in bed, for about 15 minutes, almost 5 out of 7 days in the week. It is still swollen and the hurting is becoming more frequent. This is not a bunion. Any ideas as to what is wrong? >

Nope, not ingrown toenails.

Well, the toenail is just like my fingernails in color, and isn't extremley short nor long. I think I might have hit it with a field hockey ball, but the x-ray showed what a normal toe should look like, bone and all.

Pain in a big toe, especially at night, is one of the symptoms of gout. But I would think that the doctors would have already considered that. Do make sure that you see a podiatrist if you haven't already. Go to the link below. Read the paragraph on symptoms and see if that sounds like your problem.
