How do you treat hepatitis C ?

Best answer:
There is no vaccine for Hep C. There are vaccines for Hep A & B. The standard treatment for Hep C is pegylated interferon and Ribavirin. The interferon is a shot given once a week and Ribavirin is a pill - dose depends of your genotype and weight. The length of treatment varies depending on your genotype. Genotype 2&3 are treated 24 months. Genotype 1 is treated longer - 48 weeks. Genotype 2&3 has about an 80% chance of clearing the virus with treatment. Genotype 1 is lower, about 40-50% with treatment. There are many possible side effects including: flu-like symptoms, depression, anxiety, anemia - just to name a few. The two pegylated interferons are called Pegasys and Peg-Intron.
