I woke up a couple days ago and my jaw (right) pops when I open my mouth/move it

Most of the time if I open my mouth normally it's okay, but if I chew (causing a grinding motion) it will pop or if I move my jaw sideways while opening (similar to grinding, only a larger motion) it pops as well. How can I make it stop or will it go away on its own? Could it be due to grinding my teeth at night or sleeping on it wrong?

That is exactly the same problem I was having. I woke up one morning, my jaw was sore, then it started popping. Its been that way for about 2 years now. It may be because you said you clenched or grinded your teeth at night. I know I clenched mine. You may have a mild case of TMJ. t is the Temporo-Mandibular Joint , the joint where the mandible joins the temporal bone of the skull, immediately in front of the ear on each side of your head. A small disc of cartilage separates the bones, much like in the knee joint, so that the mandible may slide easily; each time you chew you move it. But you also move it every time you talk and each time you swallow. Here are some symptoms:

Ear pain
Sore jaw muscles
Temple/cheek pain
Jaw popping/clicking
Locking of the jaw
Difficulty in opening the mouth fully
Frequent head/neck aches

And here are somethings you can do:
Rest the muscles and joints by eating soft foods.
Do not chew gum.
Avoid clenching or tensing.
Relax muscles with moist heat like a warm towel 1/2 hour at least twice daily.

The best thing would be to go to a dentist and have him look at it. If it is very serious, surgery may be necessary.

I hope this helps!
